Fault Tolerance Analysis of Five-Level Neutral-Point-Clamped Inverters under Clamping Diode Open-Circuit Failure

Multilevel inverters are increasingly used in industrial applications which service continuity is crucial. This paper presents an original approach to ensure the fault-tolerant operation of neutral-point-clamped (NPC) case open-circuit fault event a clamping diode, rarely investigated conducted research work. The proposed strategy meets following criteria: restoring rated output voltage and current during post-fault operation, realizing without additional components, maintaining total harmonic distortion (THD) fast transition between faulty remedial operation. In approach, prior applying appropriate action, identification defective diode required. this respect, very simple logic-based diagnosis presented whose implementation does not need any components external circuit. Moreover, it require component modeling complicated calculations. validated by simulation experimentation.
